Leeds United are one of the clubs that are interested in the signing of Fluminense winger Matheus Martins, according to reports from Brazil.

Media Outlet Globo Esporte reports that, as a result of the player’s talent demonstrated during his debut season with the first squad, he is already attracting interest from European clubs.

Ajax and Benfica, among others, are alleged to have sought information on the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer season. Despite this, it is believed that there are currently no open contacts with Fluminense.

Even though there have just been approaches so far, Globo Esporte believes Matheus Martins might be the club’s biggest sale this year, recalling that they had already rejected down 7 million euros from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2021.

The teenager has only made 14 appearances for Fluminense’s first squad so far, but he is gradually demonstrating his ability. Leeds and other teams may have been tracking him since his time at Flu’s academy.

Martins is one of the brightest young players, not just in Fluminense but the entire Brazilian first division.

While he has yet to establish himself as a fixture in the senior team, he is said to be highly regarded by European clubs. Despite the fact that the transfer interest is still at the inquiry stage, the widespread consensus in the Brazilian media is that the teenager could be on his way this summer.

Leeds have struggled in the final third this season, and Martins’ arrival could help them improve. He may not walk straight into the starting lineup, but he’d bring the charisma and experience of playing in a different league. Martins fits the bill perfectly because Brazilian players are incredibly skilled.

Shakhtar allegedly had a bid of 7 million euros rejected for Martins, and Fluminense are expecting a much bigger fee. Martins does have a release clause of 50 million euros, but it seems unlikely that paying that fee will be required.

Leeds already have one Brazilian star with Raphinha shining at Elland Road, and they may look to sell a similar dream to Martins. The 18-year-old left-winger has played 14 times for Fluminense’s first team and seems destined for a big move.

With Crysencio Summerville fighting for action, Jack Harrison, Daniel James, and Raphinha are vying for two positions, which is difficult enough. Martins might be a target for Leeds if Raphinha goes this summer, with Barcelona heavily connected with a move for the Leeds midfielder.

It won’t be easy to beat Ajax and Benfica, especially because both clubs have had much success with Brazilian players in recent years. On the other hand, Victor Orta is excited about this endeavour since he has identified wonderkid Martins as a future star. Keep an eye on Martins for a big move away from Fluminense as the summer transfer window approaches, with Leeds, a strong contender.
